Mt. Blue surges past Lawrence

FARMINGTON – Heather Ernest scored 14 of her game-high 20 points in the third quarter and Rachel Merrill scored seven of her 12 points in the fourth as Mt. Blue posted a 66-52 schoolgirl basketball win over Lawrence Friday night.

Brandy Sloan added 10 points for Mt. Blue, which also used strong defense and rebounding in the second half to spark the turnaround.

Erica Veilleux topped the Bulldogs with 12 points.

At Thorndike, Sarah Cole scored nine of her 15 points in the second quarter and Naomi Gillette scored eight of her 18 in the third quarter as the Mustangs pulled away from Maine Central Institute.

Michelle Ludden added 17 points and Ellen Ward 11 for Mount View. Gillette also grabbed 11 rebounds.

Amanda Leavitt poured in 26 points, including 19 in the fourth quarter, for the Huskies of Pittsfield.
