Distinguished women

We would like to congratulate the NEWS on its excellent coverage of Constance Hunting, Dale McCormick and Madeleine Giguere — the three women who received the Maryann Hartman Award this year from the Women in the Curriculum and Women’s Studies Program of the University of Maine.

The Maryann Hartman Awards annually honor three Maine women for their achievements in the arts, politics, business, education and community service and whose accomplishments provide inspiration for other women. The award is named for the late Maryann Hartman, associate professor of speech communication, and distinguished educator, feminist, scholar and humanist.

We would like to encourage anyone who knows of a woman who should be so honored to call 581-1228 and request a nomination form. There are many distinguished and inspirational women in Maine and we would like to see them all be recognized.
