Greenville man escapes early morning fire

A Greenville man jumped out the third floor window of his house to escape a fire Thursday morning.

Lonnie Gould of Greenville jumped onto his front porch and then onto a snow bank to escape a fire that would later consume his home, reported Micheal Drinkwater, chief of the Greenville Fire Department.

“We received the call around 4 a.m. and when we arrived the fire had already fully involved the back of the house,” said Drinkwater.

The house on Prithom Avenue in Greenville burned for 3 1/2 hours before the Greenville Fire Department, combined with mutual aid from Monson, could extinguish the flames. The home of Jody and Lonnie Gould received significant damage.

“Smoke, fire and water damage were prevalent throughout the house,” said Drinkwater. “Luckily there were no serious injuries to the family or the firemen involved.”

Lonnie Gould was taken to C.A. Dean Memorial Hospital and treated for smoke inhalation.

The Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating.
