Funk’s 18 points lead Husson over St. Joe’s

STANDISH – Chris Funk netted 18 points and dished out six assists as Husson College earned the 78-77 upset victory over St. Joseph’s in men’s basketball action Thursday night.

St. Joe’s was the nation’s No. 21-ranked team in this week’s NAIA Division II poll.

Brad Olson and Nikos Sompatzis added 16 and 15 points, respectively, for the Braves. Giovanni Cotto scored 11 points.

Carl Howell scored a game-high 24 points for the Monks and Lynn Campbell added 19. Marlow Bernard tossed in 12 points and handed out 10 assists, while Mike Fortier had 13 points.

At Standish, Kelly Down led a balanced Husson offense with 12 points.

Liza Doughty added 10 points and Emily Walker had eight rebounds for the Braves.

Kristen Chavarie led all scorers with 16 points and Shannon Field reeled in 10 rebounds for St. Joseph’s.
