Powell sparks Lincoln Academy

BELFAST – Ben Powell hit a contested pull-up jumper with one second left in the third overtime to give Lincoln Academy a 70-68 boys basketball overtime win over Belfast Monday night.

Matt Newcomb had converted a traditional three-point play for Belfast to tie it at 68 with 24 seconds left.

Powell finished with 13 points for the winners while Jon Teel and Steve Flagg contributed 12 each.

Newcomb’s 17 points, Matt Darres’ 15 points, Sazi Guthrie’s 13 points and Matt LaHaye’s 11 led Belfast.

At Millinocket, D.J. Lindsey’s only basket of the game, a 3-pointer at the buzzer, forced the overtime and Rick McDonald scored five points in the OT to pace the Eagles.

Nick Johnston had 25 points for the winners, Ben Donaldson and Ryan Conley chipped in with 17 apiece and McDonald had 10.

Corey Streams’ game-high 34 points led Stearns.

At Lawrence, Bruce Boyington scored his only points of the game on two clutch free throws with four seconds left in overtime that sealed the victory for Old Town.

Old Town’s Peter Fournier sent the game into overtime by hitting one of two free throws with one second left in regulation. He finished the game with 16 points and 15 rebounds. Dan Emerson scored a game-high 22 points and Jeremy Belyea and Jason Thibodeau each chipped in with 10.

Jason Underwood scored 16 points to pace Lawrence. Joe Nadeau tossed in 13 points while Travis Brown and Justin Knight added 11 and 10 points, respectively.

At Old Town, senior center Andrea Pardilla broke a school single-game record by pouring in 35 points and she also broke the 1,000-point mark in doing so to lead unbeaten Old Town to its ninth win.

Pardilla, who now has 1,016 points, also pulled down 11 rebounds and blocked eight shots.

Her 35 points broke the previous mark of 34 set by Diana Perkins in 1978.

Jody Kenniston had 26 points for the winners, including 19 in the first half as the Indians built a comfortable 47-26 lead at the half.

Erika Veilleux’s 19 points, Jen Rood’s 14, Erica Nickerson’s 13 points and Sam Hunt’s 10 led Lawrence.
