ELLSWORTH — Maine Community Foundation donors from across the United States have responded to the news of the recent ice storm by donating $10,415 to address the needs of Washington County residents most affected by the widespread power outages.
The donations will be distributed by the Washington Hancock Community Agency through an emergency fund established at the foundation.
The funds will be used to help residents pay for food, personal health supplies, minor furnace repairs, fuel, plumbing and electrical repairs, shelter, transportation to medical appointments, and potential evictions because of lost income, according to a press release.
The fund was created for people who have exhausted other grant programs. Grants will be made for up to $500.
