Two Pirates to slash into All-Star game

PORTLAND – Defenseman Stewart Malgunas and former Pirate left wing Andrew Brunette have been named to the Canadian AHL All-Star team. The 1998 AHL All-Star Classic will be held on Feb. 10 and 11 at the Onondaga County War Memorial in Syracuse, NY, and will be broadcast on ESPN2.

Brunette, appearing in his second All-Star game, is currently with the Washington Capitals. At the time of his recall, Brunette led the AHL in scoring with 18 goals and 35 assists in 34 games. Malgunas, a first-time All-Star, is the Pirates’ leading defenseman goal scorer with nine.
