Milbridge man suffers heart attack at wheel

MILBRIDGE — A local man driving down Main Street in Milbridge died of an apparent heart attack and drove off the road Wednesday afternoon.

According to state Trooper Cliff Peterson, the medical examiner has ruled that Roderic Gardner, 77, died of the heart attack before his car struck a sign pole at the gas station on Main Street around 4 p.m.

Witnesses reported hearing the car accelerating before it veered off the road and struck the gas station sign pole, Peterson said. Police are investigating whether alcohol found in the car was a factor in the accident, he said.
