Deer Isle motorist killed when he fails to make turn

DEER ISLE — A 77-year-old man was killed Wednesday afternoon when he drove off an embankment and his truck landed upside down and partially submerged in the ocean.

Edgar Bolduc Jr. of Deer Isle was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a statement from Sgt. Patrick Kane of the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department. Bolduc was the sole occupant of the 1994 Ford Explorer and was driving on Mountainville Road around 3:30 p.m. when he failed to make a sweeping curve on the left, the statement said.

The Explorer crossed the roadway before traveling about 30 feet over an embankment. The truck came to rest on its roof, which was partially submerged in the ocean.

Bolduc was wearing a seat belt at the time and investigators reported that the air bag was deployed.

Investigating officers Kane and Deputy Jeffrey McFarland were assisted at the scene by Memorial Ambulance crew and the Deer Isle Fire Department.
