East Machias man hurt in snowmobile accident

LIMESTONE — An East Machias man was listed in good condition Monday at a Waterville hospital after being injured when the snowmobile he was driving hit a tree, according to hospital and game warden officials.

Jason Ackley, 20, was driving a Polaris when he rounded a corner and struck a tree Saturday night, according to Warden Gary Sibley.

Ackley was the last in a group of three sleds traveling through a winding wooded section of Interconnecting Trail System 81, Sibley said.

The accident was attributed to poor visibility, caused by snow kicked up by the snowmobile in front of Ackley, the warden said.

Ackley was taken from the accident scene on a sled towed by a snowmobile. He was taken to Cary Medical Center in Caribou and later transported to MaineGeneral Medical Center in Waterville for orthopedic medical attention, according to hospital officials in Caribou.
