Johnston gets Ellsworth past Gray, Hermon

ELLSWORTH – The Ellsworth boys basketball team held Hermon to five fourth quarter points and Rick McDonald iced the game with two free throws with 50 seconds remaining as the Eagles defeated the Hawks 54-50 Friday night.

Nick Johnston led Ellsworth with 17 points. Ben Donaldson added 13 points. Chris Gray paced Hermon with 17 points.

At East Machias, Washington Academy scored 30 points in the fourth quarter to top George Stevens Academy of Blue Hill.

Brandon Ashby and Josh Ramsdell each tossed in 20 points. Ashby grabbed 11 rebounds, nine of which were offensive boards. James Smith contributed 13 points.

Chad Mattson led the Eagles with 16 points. Eben Foss added 10.
