Series: UM leads 35-23-3

Key players: Maine – LW Steve Kariya (14 goals, 17 assists), RW Shawn Wansborough (10 & 10), RW Cory Larose (5 & 12), D David Cullen (6 & 17), D Brian White (0 & 9), G Alfie Michaud (7-5-3, 3.74 goals-against average, .879 save percentage); New Hampshire – F Jason Krog (21 & 21), F Derek Bekar (15 & 16), F Mark Mowers (14 & 11), D Jayme Filipowicz (1 & 14), D Christian Bragnalo (1 & 10), G Sean Matile (14-4-1, 2.68, .902)

Outlook: Maine has not lost to UNH at Alfond since Feb. 2, 1985, Shawn Walsh’s first year as the Bears’ coach. Since Maine lost to UNH 7-0 at the Governor’s Cup in November, Maine has improved defensively, going 2-0-2 in its last four games in which Michaud stopped 145 shots. But even if Maine can hold the fourth-ranked Wildcats to fewer goals this time, scoring on UNH – which has given up just 2.7 goals a game – will be tough. The Wildcats have gone 8-1-1 in their last 10 games. The Bears will be buoyed by the return of Wansbourough, White and Tuomo Jaaskelainen who all missed Maine’s 0-0 tie against Boston College.
