PASSADUMKEAG — A helicopter carrying propane tanks to the transmission site of radio station WVOM on Passadumkeag Mountain was forced to drop them into the woods because of high winds.
No injuries were reported in the sparsely populated area.
“There are 22 propane tanks in the woods, deeply embedded in the snow and ice,” said Jerry Evans, owner of WVOM said. “I hope nobody got hurt.”
Evans said the helicopter successfully delivered the first 20 of 42 propane tanks to the site in order to fuel a generator that is powering the transmission facility. The second 22 tanks, however, were dropped because of the high winds about 1:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Helicopters were searching for the tanks. Once found, they will be brought to the facility, Evans said.
