Light and relection

As many people have already realized, going without electricity for 3 1/2 days (or longer) makes one appreciate all the wonderful things that electricity makes possible. The list is too extensive to enumerate.

I hope people take this opportunity to reflect on what a valuable resource electricity is and how, like other resources, it should not be wasted or used unnecessarily. Turn lights out when not using them. Use the lowest wattage bulbs that will do the job. Turn off TV’s and other appliances when not in use.

I would like to thank the crews from Bangor Hydro, CMP, and everyone else who helped to restore power to those of us who are lucky enough to have our power back and who are still working to restore power to others. These crews have been working day and night under poor conditions.

The public safety people (police, fire, rescue, etc.) also have been doing a great job. Their work is hazardous and their efforts heroic. They deserve our praise and thanks. Steve Colburn Orono
