HOULTON — Heating oil prices in Maine dropped another penny this week to an average of 89 cents a gallon. That is 17 cents a gallon less than a year ago.
Prices ranged from as low as 85 cents a gallon in southwestern sections of the state to as much as 95 cents in central and eastern areas, according to the State Planning Office.
The average price of heating oil so far this season peaked in late November and early December at 93 cents before starting downward. Last January, the average price had topped out for the season at $1.06 a gallon.
