Bailey perfect as Hawks roll over Black Bears

HARTFORD, Conn. – The University of Hartford rushed out to a 21-point lead in the first half and never led by fewer points than that in the second, blasting the University of Maine 92-68 in men’s basketball at The Sports Center Wednesday night.

Junior guard Justin Bailey made all 10 of his field goal attempts en route to 22 points, while senior forward Ryan Howse connected for 21. Anthony Bethune and Keith Bike scored 12 and 11, respectively.

The Hawks took a page from the playbook of Delaware, which hammered the ball at the Bears inside on Saturday and came away with a win. Both Delaware and Hartford resorted to perimeter shooting only on rare occasions: each tried only seven 3-pointers. Hartford connected on two, and Delaware one.

Junior guard Fred Meeks netted 28, including seven 3-pointers, for Maine. Allen Ledbetter notched 10.

Ledbetter, the No. 3 rebounder in the nation, was held to six boards and the Hawks outrebounded Maine 37-28 in the game.

The Black Bears also had difficulty holding onto the ball, committing 23 turnovers to Hartford’s 13.
