Gray, Jones lead MDI past Foxcroft 76-68

MOUNT DESERT – Aaron Gray and Ian Jones combined for 11 points in the overtime period to lead Mount Desert Island to a 76-68 schoolboy basketball victory over Foxcroft Academy Saturday.

Gray finished with the game-high 25 points and Jones tallied 16. Chris Seely chipped in with 14 points and Justin Norwood added 11.

For Foxcroft Academy, Seth Kimball tossed in 24 points. Andy Lizotte and Nate Laita scored 18 and 11, respectively.

At Katahdin, Willie Sleeper shot his way to 26 points to lead the Cougars to the win over the Pandas.

Shawn Cyr added 13 points for Katahdin. Brandon McCarthy had 11 points. Adam Peters led Lee Academy with 17 points. Chris Carr tacked on 12 points.

At Bingham, Erin Melcher helped Valley get back into the game with nine free throws in the second quarter as the Cavaliers pulled close and eventually took the win.

Melcher led Valley with a game-high 28 points. Tiffany Messer added 12 points. Tasha Clark keyed Rangeley with 16 points.
