Poverty, homeless on capital agenda

AUGUSTA — Poverty issues and the plight of the homeless will be the focus of the Maine Council of Churches’ Legislative Day, slated for Jan. 15 under the Capitol dome in Augusta.

From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., members and associate members of the Maine Council of Churches will gather in the Hall of Flags to introduce themselves to legislators, to discuss issues and to network with each other.

The day’s program will focus on poverty issues, the need for just wages, appropriate and affordable health care, social services for children, and the needs of those who are homeless.

Several proposed bills before the Legislature this session address the minimum wage, social services for children in need and health care.
