Orland’s decision

I would like to thank the citizens of Orland who signed my petition to increase the board of selectmen. Due to the disappearance of two petitions from the same store, and the town office preferring not to post this petition, I am now and will be for the month of January circulating a certified petition calling for a referendum question with the March municipal elections, by secret ballot. The question being: Are you in favor of increasing the board of selectmen from a board of three to five effective March 1999?

I have listened to your comments. What I heard was that more people would vote by secret ballot than what would attend a town meeting. This is very true. I wish more people would attend the town meeting to see where the tax dollars are being spent. We are still one of the few towns where our voice can make a difference. This form of government is fast going by the wayside in Maine.

Help me get this item to the vote of the citizens of Orland. Sign the petition or help circulate a petition. Darla Crawford Orland
