FAIRFIELD — A Canadian trucker heading home from New Jersey was killed when he lost control of his rig on Interstate 95, state police said Monday.
John J. Vezeau, 45, of Hartland, New Brunswick, was driving north about 8:45 p.m. Friday when his truck veered onto the rumble strip, said Stephen McCausland, spokesman for the state Department of Public Safety.
He apparently overcorrected and slammed into the median in Fairfield. The empty tractor-trailer jackknifed and burst into flames, McCausland said. Vezeau was pronounced dead at the scene.
Vezeau was returning home after delivering potatoes in New Jersey.
