Leadership programs in farming set at UM

ORONO — The University of Maine Cooperative Extension is offering two leadership programs for managers and employees of Maine farms and other agricultural operations.

Mary Wiedenhoft, UMaine professor of agronomy, will discuss leadership styles during a session titled “Developing Leadership Potential in Maine Agriculture” at the annual Maine Agricultural Trades Show on Thursday, Jan. 15, at the Augusta Civic Center. The free public talk will be from 1 to 3 p.m.

In February, the eighth annual Maine Agricultural Leadership Institute will be held at the Black Bear Inn in Orono. Participants will work with political and media experts to hone policy-making and communication skills. Openings are still available for the three-day program, scheduled for Feb. 25-27. Space is limited to 40 participants. Registration fees are $50 for individuals and $75 for couples from the same business.
