Pennington leads Madawaska by Fort Kent

MADAWASKA – Luke Pennington made four of five free throws in the fourth quarter to keep Madawaska in the lead and the Owls pulled out a 44-41 win over Fort Kent Saturday afternoon.

Pennington led all scorers with 15 points. Ben Marshall added nine points. Chad Fournier and Yannick Nadeau paced Fort Kent with eight points apiece.

At Houlton, Trevor Adams paced the Shiretowners with 14 points.

Lucus Ritchie scored 12 points and ripped down 11 rebounds for the winners. Frank DiStefano tossed in 10 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. Shane Lee and Mike Weston had 12 and 10 points respectively.

Travis Hill led Hodgdon with 12 points.

Stearns 56, Orono 55

At Orono, Corey Streams scored the final four points, including the winning free throw with no time left, to give the Minutemen from Millinocket the victory.

Orono led 55-52 with three seconds left, but Matt Ayotte sank a free throw for Stearns and Streams rebounded Ayotte’s miss on the second shot and scored to tie it.

Orono then turned the ball over and Streams was fouled on the inbounds play to set up his winning free throw, which came on his second attempt. Streams paced Stearns with 23 points and eight steals while Ayotte added 18 points.

Ian Torrey scored 20 points and grabbed 13 rebounds for Orono. Joe Johnson added 17 points and David Means had six steals.

At Greenville, the Vikings built their lead to 15 points after three quarters and held on for the win.

Nate Hall led all scorers with 29 points for Searsport. Hall also grabbed 18 rebounds. Josh Tripp added 11 points.

Tom Demming and Ian Morrill led Greenville with 12 points apiece. Jake Walden chipped in 11 points.

At Milo, Casey Hamlin scored eight of his 19 points in the fourth quarter as Penquis Valley survived a late comback and earned the victory.

Hamlin added six assists and Matt Pokrywka scored a game-high 21 points and had eight rebounds.

Nick Lyons nailed a shot with one minute remaining to tie the game at 58 as Scheck came back from a 12 point halftime deficit. P.J. Ciacarrochi scored 18 points to pace the Wolverines. Nate Jamo tossed in 14 points and Chris Wyman added 12.
