Telecommunications use by disabled on agenda

AUGUSTA — A legislative commission studying the use of teletypewriters and other telecommunications equipment for disabled people will hold a public hearing at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 6, at the State House, Room 134.

Topics will include the use and distribution of equipment for the disabled in Maine; financing TTY and other communications equipment; compliance requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990; and funding expansion of the program, including distribution of additional equipment.

The public is invited to attend the hearing and make comments. Interpreters will be available, and the hearing room is accessible to the handicapped. Those who cannot attend may submit written comments to the Commission to Study the Funding and Distribution of Teletypewriters and Other Telecommunications Equipment for People with Disabilities, in care of the Office of Policy and Legal Analysis, 13 State House Station, Augusta 04333; by facsimile: 287-1275; or by e-mail: opla@state.me.us.
