Guthrie powers Belfast victory

BELFAST – Sazi Guthrie led four Belfast players in double figures with 18 points as Belfast took a 64-51 win over Maranacook in boys high school basketball action Friday night.

Chad Place and Matt Lamaye scored 11 points apiece for Belfast. Matt Darres added 10 points.

Tony Creek paced Maranacook with 15 points and Brian Garrity contributed 14.

At the Bangor Auditorium, Brian Alley scored 18 of his game-high 24 points in the second half and Jonesport-Beals outscored Bangor Christian 17-8 over the game’s final 3 1/2 minutes to rally for the win.

Alley had 10 third-quarter points and eight more in the fourth quarter as the Royals erased a 35-33 halftime deficit.

Josh Knowlton had 20 points for the winners and James Robinson had 13.

Craig Simmons’ 21 points, Mark Reitsma’s 13 and Justin McKenna’s 11 points led Bangor Christian.

At Searsport, Nick Wiberg scored a game-high 20 points and Jacob Whitsett and Andy Eaton combined for 17 second-half points to rally Deer Isle-Stonington from a seven-point halftime deficit.

Whitsett had nine of his 12 points in the second half and Eaton had eight of his 10 points in the final period.

Nate Hall’s 15 points and eight rebounds; Ben Dudley’s 14 points and Josh Tripp’s 10 points and seven assists led Searsport. Steve Saucier had 10 boards.
