Agents nab 30 pounds of pot, arrest four

MACHIAS — Agents of the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency seized more than 30 pounds of marijuana and arrested four Washington County men Wednesday afternoon.

Arrested on Class B felony charges of aggravated drug trafficking were David Elwell, 43, of Marshfield and Jeffrey Robicheau, 39, of Whitneyville. Chester Moholland, 47, of Whitneyville was arrested on a Class C felony charge of aggravated drug trafficking and Class D misdemeanor charges of possession of cocaine and possession of prescription drugs. Richard Murray, 28, of Lubec was arrested on a Class D charge of criminal simulation for possession of a firearm without a serial number.

Darrell Crandall, supervisor of the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency, said drug agents, Washington County sheriff’s deputies and Maine State Police officers executed search warrants on the homes of Elwell, Robicheau and Moholland shortly before noon. Murray was at one of the Whitneyville residences, Crandall said.

In addition to the marijuana, officers seized more than $20,000 in cash and more than 20 firearms, Crandall said.

Crandall declined to discuss the grounds for the search warrants Wednesday night, but said they were the result of a lengthy investigation into the activities of the three men.
