Morang, Suddy power Shead

EASTPORT – Dan Morang and Willie Suddy each scored four points in overtime to lead the Shead Tigers to a 76-72 victory in overtime over the Woodland Dragons in schoolboy basketball action Tuesday night.

Woodland’s Josh Thornton nailed two free throws with three seconds left in regulation to force the overtime.

Shead avenged an 81-64 Dec. 10 loss.

Suddy finished with 20 points for the winners, Morang had 16 to go with 15 rebounds and Shaun Small had 15 points. Corey McPhail added 13 and Ricky Cox handed out nine assists.

Ben Speed’s 24 points and Thornton’s 13 led Woodland. Bob Chandler and Dave Nicholson contributed 10 each.

At Fort Kent, Chad Fournier scored 11 of his game-high 23 points in the first period as the Warriors jumped out to a 17-5 lead en route to the win.

Fournier also grabbed 12 rebounds. Jack Murray and Jason Dro Fournier also grabbed 12 rebounds. Jack Murray and Jason Drolet had eight points each and Seth Lovley dished out eight assists for the winners.

Kirt Castonguay’s 17 points, Nate Marquis’ 15 and Jesse Cormier’s 10 points led Van Buren.

Wiberg gets 1,000th point

At Deer Isle, Nick Wiberg poured in a game-high 38 points to lead the Mariners over Bangor Christian.

Wiberg’s 38th point, with 40 seconds left in the game, was also the 1,000th of his career. The Mariners pushed for him to get it Tuesday in front of the home fans since their next game is on the road, plus it was his parents’ anniversary.

Wiberg also pulled down 13 rebounds. Andy Eaton tallied 11 points for Deer Isle-Stonington, and Jacob Whitsett had seven assists and five steals.

Justin McKenna topped the Patriots with nine points.
