SACO – Lefthander Jay Verrill spun a three-hit shutout, striking out five and walking five, and he belted a pair of doubles as Auburn Suburban blanked South Portland National 7-0 to win the State Little League Baseball Tournament at Maremont LL Field Thursday.

Auburn Suburban, which went 3-0 in the tourney and is 8-0 in postseason play, will travel to Bristol, Conn., for next week’s Eastern Regional.

South Portland National, the District 6 titlist, finished 3-2 in the state tourney with both losses coming to the champs.

Verrill allowed only three singles and keyed a four-run second-inning rally with a two-run double. Jeff Scammon had an RBI double in the second inning, also.

Greg Hird had a two-run double in the third inning.
