Greenville winter festival planners undeterred by snowless conditions> Moosehead Magic still scheduled for February

GREENVILLE — Although frozen yellow grass now covers the area, Greenville chamber of commerce and snowmobile club officials are optimistic there will be plenty of snow in February for the annual Moosehead Magic and Winter Festival.

Plans for the event, which draws a considerable number of tourists to the area, have been under way for months by the Moosehead Lake Region Chamber of Commerce and the Moosehead Riders Snowmobile Club.

A weeklong poker run offered by the snowmobile club will begin on Feb. 15, and run through Feb. 23. The club also will sponsor the family tours event, which offers a variety of free prizes. More information on these events may be obtained by calling the clubhouse at 695-4561 or Paul Fichtner at 695-4487.

On Feb. 19, the Moosehead Junior Riders will hold a community ride to Scammon Ridge, where a bonfire will be ignited.

Winter festival events will be held on Feb. 22, including the Mount Kineo cross-country ski challenge; an ice-fishing contest; snowmobile competitions; an ice auger competition; on-snow volleyball games, a snowmobile parade and fireworks over East Cove on Moosehead Lake.
