Sprague sparks Belfast

WINSLOW – Belfast tailback Troy Sprague raced for a 10-yard touchdown with one minute, 19 seconds left for the Lions’ 16-8 Class B LTC schoolboy football win against Messalonskee of Oakland Saturday.

The senior finished with a game-high 132 yards on 21 carries. Quarterback Sazi Guthrie hit wide receiver Ian Lewis with a six-yard scoring pass in the second quarter, and Sprague rushed for the two-point conversion. Guthrie sucessfully rushed for the two-points following Sprague’s touchdown.

Messalonskee scored when Brad Rodrigue ran it in from the Belfast four-yard line, and Mike Williams’ two-point rush was successful.

Waterville 27, Skowhegan 15

At Waterville, Waterville halfback Kevin Douglass rushed for 96 yards and two touchdowns in the second half to lead the Purple Panthers to the Pine Tree Conference win.

Douglass finished with 115 yards on 18 carries for Waterville, which improves to 3-2 in conference play. Stefan Kervin added 104 yards on 28 carries and two touchdowns. Quarterback Erik Nadeau completed 7 of 11 passes for 84 yards.

Tom Nadeau powered in both of the Indians’ touchdowns from two and four yards out, respectively. Skowhegan, which falls to 2-3 in the PTC, lost four fumbles, two of which were turned into Waterville touchdowns.
