I really enjoyed the story of the Stanley Steamer roadster (BDN, Aug. 7). Imagine, from Anchorage, Alaska, to Bar Harbor, Maine, at 30 mph in a 1909 automobile, and with (motorist Raymond Carr’s) five-horsepower 1902 Northern from San Diego to Georgia! He drove a 1912 Baker Electric from Astoria, Ore., to Atlantic City, N.J.. Wow! What fun!
Also, I read with great interest about saving our lighthouses (BDN, Aug. 3-4). They are so worthy of saving. If readers are in Rockland, do stop to see “Mr. Lighthouse” (Ken Black) at the Shore Village Museum, where you’ll find pictures of every lighthouse in Maine, Massachusetts, and more. As Mr. Black says, “Be neighborly.” Patricia H. Thurston Bass Harbor
