BROOKSVILLE — Maine Forester Joachim “Jake” Maier will speak on the referendum to ban clear-cutting at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 11, at the Brooksville Public Service Building on Route 176.
Maier, formerly from the University of Freiburg, Germany, has developed harvesting practices and equipment that allow loggers to work in older hardwood stands, provide a return and cause little damage.
Maier is a member of the Maine Forest Biodiversity Project and contributes to the Maine Council on Sustainable Forest Management. For information, call 326-8022.
