Hitchner homer halts Pats, gives Pirates 10th win

MILO – Rich Hitchner’s two-run homer in the fourth inning proved to be the difference for Picataquis of Guilford as the Pirates downed Penquis 4-2 in schoolboy baseball action Wednesday.

Hitchner added a single for the Pirates. Brody McKenney struck out seven adn notched win.

Heath Reeves notched two singles for Penquis.

At Schenck, Daren Stanley scattered nine hits, striking out four and walking one, and aided his own cause with an RBI single as Schenck capitalized on 11 Lee errors, 10 walks and a hit batsman.

Schenck’s Willie Darling and Lee’s Ryan Osgood each had two singles.

At Husson College Bangor, the Minutemen put up three runs in the top of the fourth inning to break a 1-1 tie and edge the Crusaders.

Frank Bowley led Stearns with three singles, Darren Daniels rapped a double and a single, and Brian Johnson chipped in two singles.

At Howland, Ed Houston, Justin Bragdon and Josh Forcier all had doubles to help the Red Devils hand the Howlers their first loss.

Houston also had a single for Central.

Travis Lane and Jason Savage had two singles for Penobscot Valley while Tim Sereyko smashed a triple.

At Lincoln, the Lynx scored eight runs in the first inning to capture the schoolboy victory.

Nick Potts pounded two doubles and a single, Luke Libbey ripped a double and a single, and Chad Reed added two singles for Mattanawcook Academy.

James Kirk plated two runs on a double and a single for Dexter.

At Rockland, Luke Knight pitched a five-hitter, striking out six, as the Tigers beat Maine Central Institute of Pittsfield.

Miah Cook doubled and Mike Tolman had an RBI single for Rockland.

Loser Nick Lowe singled twice for the Huskies. John Craft fanned six in four innings of relief.

At Searsport, freshman righthander Matt Cox fashioned a no-hitter, striking out 10 and hitting a batter to improve to 2-3 as the Vikings beat Deer Isle-Stonington.

Ryan DeRedin backed Cox with three singles, George Tripp doubled and singled, and Paul Rybarczyk singled twice.

At Orono, pitcher Mike Perry fired a two-hitter, striking out nine, and walking none to give the Riots the win over the Hawks.

Barry Terrill, Chris Crockett, Kyle Bishop, and Robey Rhoades each singled twice to lead Orono.

Mark Alaimo and Mike Bowlby had a single apiece to pace Hermon.

At Mount Desert Island, Aaron Brown ripped a three-run double to lift the Trojans over the Eagles.

Pat Mosely ripped a triple and a single for the winners.

Mike Sirois paced Ellsworth with two singles.

At Brewer, Dennis Roy hit a game-tying two-run homer in the bottom of the fifth and Donnie Sawyer followed one out later with a game-winning solo shot as Brewer rallied from a 3-1 deficit to post its sixth straight win.

Bruce Morneault and Mike Kane combined on a six-hitter as Morneault improved his record to 5-0 and Kane notched the save.

Roy had a single to go with his homer and drove in three runs. Aaron Largay tripled and scored an insurance run.

Travis Floyd had an RBI single for Nokomis.

At Thorndike, Erik Gunning picked up his fourth win of the season, striking out nine and giving up five hits, as Winslow rolled.

Joel Fernald had a triple, double and three RBIs and Seth Carter had three singles and four RBIs to lead Winslow. Gunning added a single and a double for the winners.

Alan Colby drove in a run with a single for Mount View.
