Elwell double in seventh brings Mustangs back

THORNDIKE – Monica Elwell hit a double to score Angie Hegstrom with the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning as Mount View rallied for four runs and posted a 9-8 victory over Belfast Monday.

Holly Lidstone paced the Mustangs with two singles, a double and three RBIs. Michelle Ludden hit two singles and a double.

For Belfast, Tanya Flood and Christine Lesan each hit two singles.

Sumner 22, Washington Acad. 11

At East Machias, Amy Stevens and Tema Rogers rapped three singles and knocked in three runs apiece as Sumner of East Sullivantopped the Raiders.

Sumner pounded out 19 hits and took advantage of 15 Washington Academy errors.

Monica Guptill drilled two doubles and drove in three runs for Washington Academy, while Brandi Townsend doubled and had two RBIs.

Dexter 10, Orono 9

At Dexter, Tara Gokas singled home Amy Hunt in the bottom of the seventh inning to give the Tigers the win.

Orono had taken the lead in the top half of the inning when Jesse Libby tripled and Laine Ballard singled her home.

Hunt then walked to reach base for Dexter and advanced to third after an Orono throwing error, which scored Jess Girard from third base with the tying run. Gokas finished the day with three RBI’s on two singles.

For Orono, Pam Ventura drove in three runs on three singles. Jesse Libby added two runs on two singles.

Winslow 16, Rockland 0

At Rockland, Melanie White pitched a two-hitter, struck out eight, and walked none to lead the visiting Black Raiders to the victory.

Kate Pooler and Maegan Gordon each had two singles and a double for Winslow. Lori Anne Johnson chipped in with two singles.

Erin Toomey and Erin Stevens each singled for the Tigers.

Brewer 6, Nokomis 5

At Newport, Alicia Gilmore hit two singles and the Witches took advantage of seven Nokomis errors en route to the win.

Jaime Ferris earned the win for Brewer.

Melissa Coppa and Wendy Winslow had a pair of singles each for the Warriors.

Camden-Rockport 16, MCI 4

At Camden, Sami Hibbard ripped three singles and a double t

At Camden, Sami Hibbard ripped three singles and a double to earn herself the victory and lift the Windjammers to the win over the visiting Huskies.

Hibbard struckout three MCI batters and allowed only one walk. Nellie Peck knocked in four runs on four singles for the winners.

Kylee Berry hit two doubles and a single for the Huskies and Susannah Barnes added a double and two singles for the Huskies.

Ellsworth 13, John Bapst 5

At Ellsworth, the Eagles jumped on John Bapst of Bangor for 11 runs in the first inning en route to the victory.

Rachel Smallidge paced Ellsworth with a home run, two singles and two RBIs. Joni Pinkham rapped a solo homer and a single, and Marcy Damp singled twice.

Cressica Brazier slapped an RBI single for John Bapst.

Searsport 15, Bangor Christian 1

At Searsport, Sarah Webster fired a one-hitter and struck out 18 to lead the Vikings to the win.

Webster helped herself out with two doubles, a triple and four RBIs. Jodie Larrabee collected three singles, a double and four runs and Jen Mace ripped two doubles and three RBIs.

For Bangor Christian, Rachel Sobey hit a double.

Bucksport 4, MDI 0

At Mount Desert, Kelly Downs pitched a three-hitter and singled twice as the Golden Bucks remained unbeaten.

Downs struck out 10 and walked six and received offensive support from Karrie Hoke, who singled three times.

Heidi Doreika rapped a double for Mount Desert Island behind loser Riley McIsaac.

Bangor 16, Hampden 1

At Hampden, Melanie Deyone and Becca Kinney spaced 12 hits and Kinney had four base hits to key Bangor’s win. They didn’t walk anybody and combined for five hits.

Back-to-back doubles by Alicia Utterback and Kori Dionne sparked a nine-run fourth inning rally that broke open a one-run game.

Julie Murray had a double and a single for the winners and Amanda Stevens singled twice.

Katie Fraser had three singles for Hampden. Sarah Trask doubled twice while Kate Thompson and Lissa Albert singled twice apiece.
