EMDC finds new president > David Cole has worked for development agency past 16 years

After a nearly five-month search, the Eastern Maine Development Corp. has found a new president within its membership.

David A. Cole, a 16-year veteran of EMDC who served most recently as interim president, has been appointed chief executive officer of the nonprofit organization that promotes community and economic development within a six-county region in Eastern Maine.

Cole replaces Charles G. Roundy, who headed EMDC from 1992 until his sudden resignation last October.

According to EMDC board chairman Richard Burgess, Cole was the unanimous choice of the search committee to serve as president of the organization, which has filtered millions of dollars to Maine businesses and municipalities since its inception in 1967.

“We are extremely pleased to have someone with David’s ability and experience to lead the organization through the many opportunities and challenges that lie ahead,” Burgess said, in announcing the appointment Friday.

Cole, a Lincoln native, said he is looking forward to leading EMDC’s efforts to aid the region’s economy.

“I am honored that the board has shown its confidence in my ability to lead one of Maine’s premier economic development organizations,” said Cole, who served as vice president of EMDC for eight years.

“I look forward to working with the board, our excellent staff and community and business leaders throughout the region in developing and realizing a proactive agenda to advance Eastern Maine’s economy.”

Cole is a graduate of the University of Maine. He lives in Brewer with his wife, Karen, and sons Alex and Jonathan.
