Hampden teen earns Eagle Scout award

HAMPDEN — Hans E. Christensen, 15, a freshman at Hampden Academy and a member of Boy Scout Troop 41, received the rank of Eagle Scout on March 3, at the Hampden Kiwanis Civic Center.

Tributes were given by neighbor and baby-sitting employer, state Rep. Debra Plowman; Jerry Bates, SAD 22 music director; and Eagle Scout Dr. Jeffrey Fister, Christensen’s godfather.

His Eagle project was to supervise construction of picnic tables for the Lura E. Hoit Memorial Pool. The tables form the beginning of an outdoor patio area.

Christensen is the third generation in his family active in scouting. His mother, Deborah, achieved the first class rank in Girl Scouts, at that time the highest rank. His grandfather, Nathaniel M. Doten, also of Hampden, is a former district Scout executive, Eagle Scout, and has more than 60 years of scouting experience.

He is the son of Thomas and Deborah Christensen and is the oldest of their three children, who all are Scouts.
