Harpswell logger is killed by falling tree

LISBON — David Andrew, 40, of Harpswell died in the woods here this week, the victim of an apparent logging accident, police said.

Lisbon police, state police and game wardens went looking for Andrew after his fiancee reported him missing Tuesday afternoon.

An independent contractor, Andrew had been cutting wood on a lot at the end of the River Road. He was found near a large tree he had been trying to cut with a chain saw.

“Apparently it started to fall in the direction he wanted it to, but something caused it to snap at the base,” said Libson Police Chief David Brooks. “And when it snapped it kicked back and undoubtedly caught him right in the head.”
