Downes helps Bucks edge Eagles

BLUE HILL – Richelle Downes scored nine of her game-high 17 points in the fourth quarter to lead the Bucksport Golden Bucks to a 48-41 schoolgirl basketball win over the George Stevens Academy Eagles Tuesday night.

Christy Grover netted 15 and Christina Wheeler had 12 for the winners.

Kara Henderson led George Stevens with 11 points.

At Belfast, Rachel Bard and Devon Quirion scored eight points apiece in the third quarter as Winslow outscored Belfast 24-13 to turn a two-point halftime lead into a 13-point bulge.

Quirion finished with a game-high 20 points, Bard had 15 and Abby White scored 12 more.

Abby Peaslee’s 18 points and Liza Bachelder’s 11 led Belfast.

Cari Siviski scored 19 points for Wiscasset and Kelly Layden netted 15.
