One motorist injured in collision at Newport

NEWPORT — A two-car collision in Newport Friday afternoon resulted in minor injuries for one driver.

According to Newport police Chief James Ricker, Jane Sawyer, 56, of Newport was driving a Volkswagen Rabbit west on Main Street when she was struck on the left by a 1988 Dodge operated by John Hubbard Jr., 48, of Unity.

The police report indicated Hubbard failed to yield as he entered Main Street from a Dexter Shoe Co. driveway. Both Hubbard and his wife were wearing seat belts. Sawyer was not.

Sawyer was transported to Sebasticook Valley Hospital in Pittsfield for treatment for complaints of back and neck pain, then released.

Officer Timothy Majerske investigated. No summons were issued.
