BUCKSPORT — Two Bucksport men were transported to a local hospital after their vehicles collided head-on on the East Bucksport Road Friday evening.
Wade Winchester, 31, and John W. Jones, 24, still were being evaluated at Eastern Maine Medical Center Friday night, according to a nursing supervisor.
Jones was traveling toward Bucksport on the sanded ice- and snow-covered dirt road about 6:40 p.m. when his 1987 Oldsmobile Cutlass slid sideways at the top of a hill, according to Bucksport Police Officer Robbie Findlay. Just as Jones’ vehicle slid sideways, Winchester’s Subaru station wagon crested the hill heading toward Brewer Lake, and collided with Jones’ vehicle head-on.
The snowbanks kept the vehicles in the road, Findlay said.
Winchester had to be removed from his vehicle with the aid of a hydraulic extrication tool.
Findlay said he didn’t know whether the men were wearing seat belts, but he considered both vehicles total losses and did not believe speed was a factor.
