BANGOR DAILY NEWS (BANGOR, MAINE

We all know that during the winter months snow is part of the equation. We also know that weather forecasters, right or wrong, have the best job on television.

Foreceasters are well paid to show you graphs, maps and doomsday with great authority. Their forecast affects schools, business and others who have to face up to the weather. Of course, they accept no responsibility for what they say. What we don’t know is why they take such a ridiculous amount of time standing in front of a map talking about the current factors and using terms nobody understands. They just don’t get it!

It seems the weather forecasters have driven Maine into a panic over winter storms. We in Calais were told to expect a wild northeast storm that was coming up the coastline with exceptionally high winds. The prediction was we were to have 6 to 10 inches of snow standing in the early evening.

Surprise, surprise. It was the following morning at 8:25 when we saw that first snowflake. We had about 2 inches of snow with no winds.

The question remains: Are we Mainers getting a snow job? Maxwell Spector Calais
