Bangor High School’s Gabby Price was voted Coach of the Year by his fellow Pine Tree Conference football coaches this week.
“It’s not that big a thing,” Price said, confessing he hadn’t even told his wife, Mary, as of Friday night. “I think it usually just goes to the guy who wins the league.
“It’s kind of a formality,” he said.
Price’s 1995 Rams finished the season with a 9-3 record, the PTC championship, and their first state championship appearance since 1986.
The 13-year Bangor coach has a career record of 87-40-1, including a 29-13 record and three consecutive seasons of playoff appearances since his 1992 return to coaching after a seven-year hiatus.
The modest coach said he had won the award before but couldn’t recall how many times he had won.
