PLASTER ROCK, New Brunswick — Fraser Inc. inaugurated its largest modernization project ever, $4.15 million, at its Plaster Rock sawmill Wednesday.
The company installed a trimmer optimizer and lumber sorter at the facility to improve lumber recovery and increase productivity.
Don Tardie, general manager of Fraser Inc.’s wood products group, said the project will improve competitiveness and stewardship of its forest. He said, “Making the most efficient use of our resources, whether natural, human or financial, is not just good business sense, it’s just good common sense if you want to stay ahead of your competition.”
The Plaster Rock lumber mill is a division of Fraser Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Noranda Forest Inc. The company has bisulphite, groundwood, boxboard, and a sawmill and a de-inking plant in New Brunswick.
