Hinckley children’s home receives accreditation

HINCKLEY — The Good Will-Hinckley Home for Boys and Girls has been awarded its certificate of accreditation by the Council on Accreditation of Services for Families and Children, said Donald Marden, Hinckley board chairman in a recent press release.

Accreditation is for meeting requirements for services and Good Will-Hinckley passed several tests during the review, including a detailed examination of the agency’s operations, personnel and ethical standards, fiscal management and safety.

Dr. James Hennigar, Hinckley’s executive director, said, “The COA accreditation is important to us. We always strive to provide the highest-quality services to our youth, but receiving an independent assessment gives us a better idea of how we are doing.”

Good Will-Hinckley was founded in 1889 and has grown to a multiservice agency each year serving more than 165 children, 90 percent of whom come from Maine.

The 2,400-acre community provides 12 family style group homes for children between the ages of 11 and 18, a private Maine-certified school for grades five through 12, a specialized short-term behavior program for children aged 11 to 14, and a transitional living program with two homes for youth from 17 to 21.
