Ten seats open in town elections> Nomination deadline approaching

LINCOLN — This year municipal elections will be held Nov. 7, about eight months later than normal.

With only 12 days left before the Sept. 22 deadline to file nomination papers, only two people have filed papers for the 10 open seats on various boards.

David Joyce, who was elected in May to serve until November to fill the unexpired term of Mike MacEachern, has returned papers for a three-year council seat.

William Williams, who was appointed by the council on Aug. 14 to serve until November, completing the unexpired term of Kevin Tenggren, has returned papers for a three-year seat on the SAD 67 school board.

Four of the Town Council’s seven seats are open. Since June, when two council members, Rod Carr and Kim Nicastro resigned, the council has operated with five members.

There is one one-year term to fill the unexpired term of Kim Nicastro, who resigned in June. Although four people, Jason Clay, Patrick Ferris, Jerry Moors and William Williams, took out papers for the one-year term, no papers have been returned.

Also, there are three three-year terms open on the Town Council. The terms of Deirdra Trask, Rod Carr and Norman Moulton will expire. Moulton’s seat was filled by Mike MacEachern after Moulton resigned. MacEAchern subsequently resigned. During a special May election, Joyce was elected to serve the rest of the term, which expires in November.

Only Joyce has returned papers for one of the three-year Town Council seats. Three other people, Jerry Moors, Lyndon Perry and William Williams took out papers for the three-year seats, but have not returned them.

There are three three-year seats open for the SAD 67 school board. The terms of Daniel G. Aiken, Frank Knaut and Kevin Tenggren will expire.

William Williams is the only one who has returned papers. Sarah Crockett, Frank Knaut, Walter Ireland and Jerry Moors have taken papers out, but they have not returned them.

Two three-year terms on the Lincoln Sanitary District are open. The terms of Debra Ireland and Mary Smart will expire. Walter Ireland and Mary Smart took out papers, but have not returned them.

Harvey Clay’s three-year term on the Hospital Administrative District 1 Board of Directors will expire. Clay took out papers, but has not returned them.

The deadline for filing nomination papers with Town Clerk Lisa Goodwin is before 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 22.

Papers must be signed by at least 25 registered voters, but by no more than 100 voters.
