Minutemen pound Black Bears 4-1

AMHERST, Mass. – Dave Siljanovski scored a pair of goals and assisted on another to lead the University of Massachusetts to a 4-1 men’s soccer win over the University of Maine here Wednesday.

After UMass’ Mike Butler and Maine’s Mike Dunphy swapped goals, Siljanovski gave UMass the lead for good by scoring with 1:53 left in the half.

Siljanovski and Fabio Maniatty added insurance goals late in the second half. Brad Kurowski set up Maniatty’s goal.

UMass, now 2-0-1, outshot the Bears 8-6. UMass goalie Eric Gruber and Maine’s Nathan Benoit each made one save.

Maine is now 1-2 and has allowed seven goals in its last two games, the most a Bear team has surrendered in a two-game span in over two years.
