I feel the need to respond to the review by Alicia Anstead of the recent production of “Man of La Mancha” by the New World Theatre based at the Waterville Performing Arts Center.

I was in the audience for the turday night performance and the show I experienced was nothing like what Ms. Anstead’s review prtrayed. I have seen productions of “Man of La Mancha” many times including one which the late Richard Kelley performed in Boston a number of years ago. Saturday’s performance was up to par with most and it exceeded others I have seen.

Ms. Anstead’s review proceeded to tear down the performances of Bill Haley (Don Quixote), Linda LaCroix (Aldonza Dalcinea), and Brian Quirion (Sancho) which ultimately was an insult to Charles Blaisdell as director. Perhaps Ms. Anstead’s should have written about the enthusiasm and the delight the audience experienced.

I agree with her praise of the orchestra’s performance under the direction of Charles Milazzo. It was superb. I also applaud the Maine Center for the Arts for presenting this production. I only hope that future community theater productions are reviewed with more insight. Richard Morrow Hallowell
