Dill is very easy to grow, either from seeds kept from last year’s harvest or purchased seeds. Try it in your garden or in a fancy pot by an indoor windowsill or on a deck.
Cultivation: Site — Full sun, protect from wind.
Propagating: Sow in the ground from spring until midsummer. Do not plant near fennel, as they cross pollinate.
Growing: Thin to 9-12 inches apart. Can be grown indoors.
Harvesting: Gather leaves when young. Pick flowering tops just as fruits begin to form. To collect seed: after flowering head turns brown, hang the whole plant over a cloth.
Preserving: Dry or freeze leaves. Dry ripe seed. Make dill vinegar with flowering heads or seed.
