Brewer wins Senior title

Chad Gilley’s triple drove in what proved to be the go-ahead run in the third inning as Brewer took the District 3 Senior League baseball championship 3-1 over Machias at Mansfield Complex in Bangor Thursday afternoon.

Brewer will take on Falmouth at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Mansfield Complex in the state tournament.

Belfast defeated Waldo 9-7 for District 2’s 9- and 10-year-old Little League championship. Belfast will take on Waterville in the state tourney at Westbrook in at 1 p.m. Saturday.

A champion was also crowned in Senior League softball as Bucksport beat Bangor 11-1 to claim the District 3 title.

Brewer 3, Machias 1

At Mansfield Complex, Gilley also drove in a run with a groundout in the first inning. Corey Gonzales had two singles and an RBI.

Pitcher Scott Tremble came up with a four-hitter as he struck out two and walked three.

For Machias, Brandon Ashby drove in a run with his second-inning single. Glenroy Wood gave up eight hits and struck out five.

Belfast 9, Waldo 7

At Winterport, Marcus Colby’s double with no outs in the eighth inning delivered Jesse Johnson and Nick Faulkingham and gave Belfast its win over Waldo. Johnson and Faulkingham had each singled to trigger the rally.

Colby pitched two innings of shutout baseball to notch the win in relief.

Faulkingham had a triple, double and two singles for the winners; Johnson had four base hits; Chris Larsen doubled and singled and Jeff Parenteau singled twice.

Marc McCarrison had a double and two singles for Waldo and Ben Quimby had three singles.

Senior League softball

Bucksport 11, Bangor 1

At Bucksport, Sarah Webster pitched a no-hitter, giving up one unearned run in five innings while striking out nine and walking one to lead Bucksport past Bangor.

Lacey Annis drove in two runs on three base hits for Bucksport, and Summer Smith added two more RBIs. Kelly Downes hit an RBI single.

Lindsey Gregory scored Bangor’s only run.
