`Healthy Families’ information offered

BANGOR — Partnerships for Healthy Communities and the Parent Child Alliance will sponsor an informational meeting about “Healthy Families Maine” 3-4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 24, at the Holiday Inn, 500 Main St.

Herb Robinson, director of the Parent Child Alliance, will describe the organizing effort in Greater Bangor to develop Healthy Families Maine.

Pam Correll, a public health nurse and former chairwoman of the statewide Healthy Start Task Force, will report on the task force itself, including its recent recommendations to the Legislature for the funding of three HFM sites.

State Sen. Sean Faircloth, longtime advocate of HFM, will attend.

HFM is a voluntary home visitor program that offers support and education to new families. It emphasizes an approach to preventing child abuse and other poor childhood outcomes, based on two decades of research and the experiences of other successful programs.

HFM also offers an opportunity for bringing together existing services and residents to form a collaborative system of care that offers children and families a better chance for future success in life.
