Houlton stifles Woodland in fourth for win

WOODLAND – The Houlton Shiretowners held the Woodland Dragons to two fourth-quarter field goals to take a 57-53 schoolboy basketball victory Friday night.

Brian Swallow paced the winners with 16 points, including 10 in the fourth quarter. Jacob Gentle added 14 points and Steve Nelson put in 11.

Brian Sherman scored 15 points for Woodland and grabbed 10 rebounds. Bobby Barter chipped in with 14 points.

At Fort Fairfield, the Blue Devils cut the Tigers’ lead from 10 points to four with two minutes remaining, but had to foul and Fort Fairfield pulled away at the end.

Mark Sprague hit a triple-double to spark the Tigers on both ends of the floor. Sprague posted 10 points, hauled in 10 rebounds, and dished out 10 assists. Jon Nichols contributed a game-high 26 points, and Don DeMerchant had 22 points and 12 assists.

Craig Worster powered the Blue Devils with 24 points and 10 rebounds. Josh DelMonaco added 14 points and Bob McMannis had 11.
